S05E090, Cut Your Losses, Andy B 2 Minute Video

I wonder if you’ve ever bought something that wasn’t cut what you wanted. Do we take it back, live with it, or bin it. I guess what we do will be somewhat dependent on what we bought and how expensive it was. We also might consider that the cost of returning it could outweigh the cost of having bought it.

I’ve been there more than once. I’ve also taken something back on principle, and lost money in the process.

We have to make decisions all the time and it can seem somewhat harsh to cutting our loss with people. Instinctively we feel that that is not a Christian thing to do.

And yet Jesus did it. And, what we see Jesus live out are life lessons we would be nothing short of arrogant to ignore. And He didn’t stop for everyone, sometimes to the surprise of His own disciples.

And, so, it is a very biblical principle to cut our losses.

Where do you need to cut your losses? Which relationships is God asking you to invest in, even when it costs you dearly? And which relationships is God asking you to walk away from.

Sometimes the answer can be super easy – having an affair? Walking away is what you must do without hesitation! But it isn’t always quite so clear cut.

If you’re struggling to know which way is up with the people in your life, go to God and ask Him, and His Holy Spirit will show you what to do.

Because, sometimes, making a loss is really not making a loss at all.

[00:00:00] So another Andy B Two Minute Video. And this one is all about Cutting Your losses. Now, if we're thinking about people, and we think about being Christians quite frequently, you might think, do you know what? We're supposed to just keep in there and keep going and be with those people. And there can be occasions for that, if God has called you. But also cutting your losses is a very, very biblical concept.

[00:00:29] I'm not talking about people on this occasion, however, I'm talking about my glasses.

[00:00:33] Now I may have referred a little while back to getting some new glasses. I've had glasses, obviously they change over time, your eyes, so what I found was a prescription was slightly out. and I know, having worn glasses for the best part of 25 years, that I've got especially sensitive eyes. So I pick up differences in the prescription faster than somebody else might, which could, because I get headaches, which causes issues.

[00:00:57] Because if an optician is in a rush to get the [00:01:00] prescription, done and not get the right prescription for me, they end up with the wrong one. I had it a long time ago. Went to a high street optician. They got the wrong thing, cuz they were in a rush and I was being quite nauseous, I was about to throw up. I was feeling quite blurred vision because they got the wrong focus for my glasses.

[00:01:19] I talked about how I got some new glasses recently. I was really excited. I waited a few years, finally got the money, went out and got it sorted, and I felt rushed. And they didn't work! I went back. They were very grumpy, more the professional pride of the individual had been hurt rather than, you know, upset that they'd somehow got it wrong for me. So they got some more glasses made up, and they were still wrong.

[00:01:38] In the end, I had to make a decision. Do I go through the rigmarole of forcing them to give me the money because they failed to do their job. Or do I just cut my losses? On that occasion? I just paid for my, for my frames, which I already owned from previous. They're really good, titanium alloy. They've lasted me ages. They're really good as frames! So I paid them money, got my glasses, and I got out of [00:02:00] there.

[00:02:00] I will never step foot in that place again!

[00:02:03] Sometimes we have to be willing to take a loss, cut our losses, and just move on.

[00:02:09] And with my glasses I've moved on. So I'll be booking up a new optician, hopefully next week. Find a decent one that actually will take the time to get it right for me. But quite often in our life, we rush to a decision. We don't take time to slowly read through scripture, and let it nourish us. We wanna read and stick to our plan.

[00:02:26] Always be careful you're not in so much of a rush that you get something that's nearly right, but not quite right.

[00:02:33] I've gone back to my old glasses because they're not very good, but they're less bad than the new ones that I got. I can function. But let's not function! Let's reach the better things we got. Let's assume he's got better plans for us. Take your time, let Him nourish you.

[00:02:47] Just a thought.
