S05E078, Slow Internet, No Internet, Andy B 2 Minute Video

Do you remember the days of Dial Up internet? Perhaps you still access the internet the same way. I do remember, vividly, that scratching squealing sound as your computer made contact with the World Wide Web.

Today we can access ultra high speed internet with our smart phones and internet connections are HUGE business!

In the UK the Government have realised that their big push to get everything ‘done online’ is leaving some people unable to access critical services - like doctors, benefits and applying for jobs.

If you don’t have internet you will struggle to function in a modern world. And a slow internet can, sometimes, feel worse than no internet connection at all because you are so close to being able to do something. At least if it’s completely failed, you can resign yourself to simply getting on with something else.

As Christians those moments of no internet can be the perfect opportunities to spend extra time with God – in nature, at home, at the beach.

If your internet is slow, make the most of it. And let us all be grateful that God doesn’t internet in order to build His Kingdom, or communicate well with us.

[00:00:00] Andy B: So another Andy B Two Minute Video. And I'm recording this and in, in a sense, I'm recording it at this precise moment in time, although you don't know when that is because we've got no internet. The internet's gone down. It's a bit frustrating, isn't it? 'Cos we kind of rely on internet these days.

[00:00:23] Well a couple of weeks ago we had it out a couple of times, couple of days worth today it's gone off and I had a Zoom call. I was gonna record something with a friend of mine and it was really frustrating.

[00:00:35] And when things that we want to do that we expect suddenly stop, it makes us question what it is that we do. But there's a few things that we can do.

[00:00:43] One is not put off to tomorrow, what we can do today. Here's the thing. Today I was gonna get some something sorted. I had to have an internet connection to do that. It's not particularly important. It'll take me 15 minutes. I haven't put it off, but I didn't quite get to it yesterday. I could have done it, but I thought, you know what? I'll do it [00:01:00] in the morning. The morning came, no internet. Can't get that job done. It's kind of critically important, actually for something we've got coming up.

[00:01:08] But so often we put things off. And we shouldn't, and we should get done what we can do, when we can do it. Not working furiously until we exhaust ourselves, but if we can easily get some't done, don't put it off to tomorrow.

[00:01:19] The second thing is not making too many plans into the future. In the New Testament of the Bible, the last third of Scripture, we see that we should make, have visions and dreams, but we should be careful when we plan. Because it says, don't make plans for tomorrow, saying, we're gonna go here and do this, and go there and do that, because you don't know what tomorrow's gonna bring. Today's got enough troubles of its own.

[00:01:39] I should have got that thing sorted on the internet!

[00:01:42] So if you can't do what you want to do or what you expected to do, or what you regularly can do, then what is it you can do?

[00:01:49] Something that's of great truth about God is he doesn't need internet to build His kingdom. We don't need internet on wifi and high speed broadband downloads in order to share the gospel.

[00:01:59] We [00:02:00] don't need to enjoy nature with a, with a WiFi connection. There's always something we can do for the kingdom. And maybe the thing that we can do for God is to spend some time with God.

[00:02:12] Now, I've got a whole bunch of other things. And they're, they're just being brought forwards and the internet stuff I need to do, that'll get pushed back. That's fine. We'll rearrange. We'll postpone.

[00:02:21] Where is your internet so slow in your life, that you just need to stop and take a break, take a smile, take a pause, look out the window, drive to a beach.

[00:02:33] If you're serving, God diligently. If you're working for God. He's always got a direct line for you and it's always guaranteed to work. So work for him and take a break when you need to.

[00:02:44] Just a thought.
