Our car is currently sitting in our garage until we can get it repaired. The expected bill is far larger than we can afford, so it may well be several months before we can get it fixed, with divine intervention!

I’m not happy with how easily I lost my peace when I was given the news about the problem, and probable repair costs. While I’ve matured I’m still a work in progress, and bad news is something I still need to learn to receive better!

Problems come along and can take us out without warning. They overwhelm us, sometimes to the point when we feel like we can’t breathe. Problem after problem throws itself at us, and we have no choice but to do the best we can.

If you’ve started with a lovely prayer time in the morning, you might be in a better mood when you get such bad news. But, have you ever noticed that these problem issues always seem to arrive when you’ve woken up and had to rush in to the day, so are utterly unprepared for what smacks you across the face like a wet kipper on a winter morning?!?

God is always good, so we can’t blame Him when things go wrong. Parts on cars wear out: at one level, the parts that need to be replaced on our car, other than being far more expensive than we’d prefer, are just parts designed to wear out and be replaced!

When problems come along how do you react?

When intensity rises, what is your go to response?

It really does reveal the side of us we prefer not to think of. However, God is watching us for our response.

[00:00:00] So another Two Minute Video with me, Andy B. And I've been thinking about the fact our car is currently in the garage, off the road and we can't afford to get it repaired, yet.

[00:00:18] Now, in the future we will. It's just a bit of a frustration right now. By frustration, I mean it's really difficult, and life has become much more complicated and hard. However, the car has broken down. We cannot afford to repair it. What do we do?

[00:00:33] Now, I didn't do quite so well this time round. I was a bit tired. I was a bit run down at the time. My response was to feel quite dark and heavy, and this is like the end of our life, and all the rest of it. I didn't handle it particularly well.

[00:00:46] Normally I'd probably pray about it a bit quicker than we did. We have prayed about it. We are leaving it in God's hands. But things come along that take us out that we are not expecting to happen.

[00:00:55] We know that if we have wiper blades on a car, that over time [00:01:00] they're gonna wear out. Every year, or so, you're probably gonna have to replace them.

[00:01:04] We know that tires are gonna wear as we use them, so we can kind of track, and ,plan what we think probably need to be replaced. There are things that we can plan for. And then there are things we can't. Like the fact that a caliper on the back of our car has got a bit stuck, so it's pulled the brakes pads to one side, so they've worn unevenly. So when they were inspected, they looked fine.

[00:01:26] Now we didn't say, can you check the brakes out? It was in for something else. And when I said to the breakdown guy, should this have been spotted? No, he said. You'd have to literally get a mirror in there to see the other brake pads. They've worn down to the metal so we heard a grating noise driving down the road thinking. That's not good. It's basically destroyed the brake discs and it's destroyed the brake pads. We have to get all of that repaired for the car to be safe on the road again.

[00:01:48] We can't afford to get it done yet.

[00:01:50] But when these problems come, whether it takes you a day, or a week, to pray, what do you then do? Do you wallow in pity? I [00:02:00] was there early this week. We live very far from where Jo works. We live very far from our church for very deliberate reasons. And it's really frustrating when we can't get there because there's no buses to get us where we want to get to. So it's kind of stopped us.

[00:02:13] We go shopping in the car, we can't go shopping.

[00:02:16] We go out as a family for things. We can't do that. It's really, really hard work.

[00:02:22] But we're persevering because, you know what? There's a local shop. And there's a local butchers. And there's a local place we can get fruit and veg. And Jo can get the bus to work. And we haven't got to be anywhere right now.

[00:02:34] When problems come, how do you face it? How do you deal with it? Because problems will come, you can deal with them. Problems will come that you can't. And the ones that you can't. God's watching our reaction, and so are other people. So how are you gonna respond?

[00:02:47] Just a thought.
